Money Saving Ideas

In my FREE book, Money for Tomorrow, I gave a few money saving ideas. Here they are and a few more that I thought of:

1) Scrutinize your bills and see where you can cut back. I was paying $5/month for a channel package I did not use.
2) Pack your lunch more.
3) Join AAA for travel discounts on hotels, rental cars, and more.
4) Instead of running to ATM and paying $2+ in fees buy a pack of gum and get cash back.
5) Shop at Sam's Club and Costco and buy your toiletries and other non-perishables in bulk. Buy shampoo, toilet paper, razors, vitamins, medicines, etc.
6) Make a shopping list before you go to the store and stick to it. Impulse buys really add up and break the budget.
7) Instead of going out with friends, have them over. They are certain to return the favor.
8) Turn down your water heater before leaving for leaving for long trips.
9) Turn off computer every night. The cooling fan will run a lot even when not in use.
10) Check the local library for DVDs and books before you go out and buy them.
11) Read your car manual for scheduled oil changes. Most cars are 5,000 or even 7,500 miles nowadays. Your dad's 3,000 mile rule of thumb is no longer the way.

What others do you have?

My advise to people to to remove debt. We all spend too much without thinking about it; a little here and a little there. It's not the big items, but so many of the little expenses that add up fast.

I had a big cut in income a few years ago and my wife and I managed to live on her salary. It was at that time that we learned just how wasteful we had become. When I was making money again, we increased our standard of living (since we had budgeted to bare bones), but we have continued to be aware of not returning to wasteful spending.

We were buying stuff we didn't really need. It felt good. We ate out too much.

Cutting back on spending allowed us to remove debt. We eventually removed all of it and are completely debt-free now. This is freedom.

Here is something simple:

Buy the paper towels that come in smaller sheets (the 1-2-3 sheet). Most often you only need a small one but take a whole sheet. You end up wasting them. Even though it is the same Square Footage a roll will last much longer.

Joe,

I don't have any new ideas for you, I just wanted to say this is a great book and really got me back to the basics! Thanks for making it free to all.
